Chattooga Section IV, Oct. 2
The weather was quite warm for October (mid-70s), typical of the odd weather which the area (northeastern Georgia) has experienced during this summer's 100-year drought. Due to that drought, however, river levels were so low as to make much of the river impassable. This included the entire first couple miles of section IV and some key rapids in the Five Falls, which we had to portage. Note that only two people plus a guide are in the raft (as opposed to the usual four) -- this is deliberate due to the low water and the need to regularly shift weight to make it through some narrow sluices. That's me on the left side of the photos.
